At the official ceremony in Madrid last night, the organization announced the five winners in their respective categories. The capital of Slovenia won the 2015 No: 1 tourist destination prize, because of its cleanliness, tranquility and green spaces. Special emphasis was also put on the pearl of the Bulgarian Black Sea – Sozopol during the grand ceremony, streamed live on the organization’s website.
“The townsfolk of Sozopol together with the local administration contribute a lot to the innovations, retaining the spirit of antiquity and the beauty of this unique destination. The restoration of antiquities and attractions has further contributed to the preservation of the city’s authentic brand, " said the Chairman of the Board.
In the beginning of 2015 it was clear that Sozopol was in the top 3 of the most desired tourist destinations in the world. The winner in “Standard” newspaper’s 2011 national campaign “The Wonders of Bulgaria” was nominated by the World Travel & Tourism Council for a top tourist destination of 2015.
The city holding The city, which keeps the relics of St. John the Baptist, applied with the project of "Sozopol" Foundation, "Architectural complex with a museum collection Southern Wall and Tower - history, culture, heritage" in the category "Best Destination".
"This award is great for Bulgaria. Never before has the non-governmental sector in partnership with the state and the local government achieved such a brilliant result. The very fact that we have entered the rankings of the World Travel & Tourism Council is of utmost importance. Its President even spoke highly of Sozopol, Bulgaria as a destination, "said the chairman of the "Sozopol” Foundation – Cyril Arnautski.
He was clear that the second place in the ranking comes to prove that Bulgaria is already a global destination and this will surely bring a lot of tourists to our country.
