The first festival of arts held place in 1984 in the city of Sozopol. The purpose of this unique event in our contemporary culture is to recognize the achievements of Bulgarian artists – both authors and performers, preserve tradition and support new ideas as well as the experimental and unconventional decisions in all forms of art. Within the festival more than 70 cultural events are presented by hundreds of performers over the course of 10 days. Many of those are national and world premieres and each evening the halls are overcrowded with interested visitors.
This year’s festival was the 32nd consecutive one and was held between the 1st and 10th of September. Some of the greatest artists of both the Bulgarian and international stages took part in its programme, presenting their most recent works, plays, spectacles, performances and shows.
The festival has been awarded “Festival of the Year 2007”, The National prize in Literature “Hristo G. Danov” and the Badge of Honor “Zlaten Vek” presented by the Ministry of Culture.
